What is a hero?

Some people say heroes are the ones who save and expect none, others think when you care for others, and some say that they are the ones that fight for what they want for others. The truth is that a hero is someone who can be what I mentioned and more. I consider that a hero is subjective, they are admired people. But sometimes someone could be a hero for 1 person and the other do not consider him a hero. So if we look close enough we can see that a hero could be anyone.

            In order to be hero, in my consideration you have to have certain values and characteristics. A hero is someone who has the correct values and knows the difference of what is right and what is wrong. Usually they tend to do good for their community such as helping others and improving theirselves every possible day. Someone who acts with no self interest, is a hero. Generally people who care about what other might think of them tend to do it only for acceptance. But real heros don’t really care about that.

            A great example of what is a hero is David hidalgo, my cousin. He is very collaborative, empathic and knows how to manage problems. He is councious about everything, and does not think when they ask him to help. He jus does it and with a very good manner. Everyone always tells me about how astonished they are with him. In my opinion my cousin is a very good role model, because he knows how to handle each one of the personalities that surrounds him. He is a man which is distinguished in his ability and admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

            A hero works beyond his or her job, it could be as a volunteer. A hero responds to a social need, or the needs of a person or group. A hero moves out of her comfort zone such as doing something he/she has no experience with and could put its life on the line. A hero has had an impact on others, he helps the les fortunate but also the contraty, sometimes raise funds for specific causes, or rescue someone whose life is in danger. 

Part 3
Chapters 20-25

Okonkwo couldn`t have the chance to lead his warlike clan against the new religion, he regret his time in Mbanda because he lost the years in which he might have taken the highest titles in the clan. What he could do was to improove himself, and his surroundings: he planned to rebuild his compound in larger scale, he also had manage to accept Nwoye`s unfortunate departure. Also Enzinma didnt got married even if she turned into a beautiful girl because his father told her to wait till they went to Umofia and in that way he could be happier.  However Umofia had changed in many ways: The church had come and led many astray. Ogbuefi had joined. He had cut the anklet of his titles, and cast it away to join the christians. They had also brought a government. They built a court and there were also messengers. Obierika and Okonkwo speak about the settling of the white men in Umofia. Okonkwo asks why did Umofia gave up and accepted to be ruled. Obierika compared them with Abame and he said it was too late to fight for what they wanted.

Akunna argues with Mr. brown about lesser gods, he said that the messengers were for them so that they could approach him through them. He also said it was like himself, that he was the head of the church. There must be a head in this world among them and finally he compared Brown with the messengers. When Okonwko returned to Umofia, Mr. Brown goes to tell him that Nwoye is in a training college for teachers. Okonkwo chases him away with threats. Then Mr. brown`s health begins to fail and he ends of leaving his flock.  When Okonkwo arrived nobody payed attention to him, except for his two daughters because of their flawless face. He diddt expect that, he actually was expecting something bigger. He was grieved because he moured for the clan whcih he saw breaking un and falling apart. He also mourned for the warlike men of Umofia, who were becoming soft like women.

Mr. Smith was the one who replaced Mr. Brown. He was a strict and intolerrant man. Mr. Smith danced a furious step, so the drums went mad. This means that he was furious and in consequence all of his surroundings would react the same. A few days later, in the annual ceremony to honor the earth deity a man called Enoch decided to unmask an egwugwu. This was the grates crime a man could commit in Umofia. Also another crime was to stay or to do anything which might reduce its inmortal prestige in the eyes of the unitated.  That was exactly what Enoch did. He had killed an ancestral spirit. Ajofia incites townspeople so they could clean their land of the white spirits. She told the white men that they could stay but if they like it the tribe`s way. She said their anger was great, but they have held it down so they can talk to them. while that, Enoch was exiled, He tells the egwugwu that Smith demands that they leave the matter in his hands. They ignored Smith`s ordeds and burned the church.

Days went by, and Okonkwo was almost happy again. Excpet for the opinion of others that didn´t want to kill the christians. They are very well prepared for them, with machetes and tolls that protect them. One day, the District Comissioner decides to talk about the church as friends with them. The tribe agrees and the most important men went. When they arrived and left their machetes in the street, the white men when they are unobserved decided to take them and handcuff them in jail for several days. They recieved no attention, in fact they were suffering with insults and physical abuse. They made a deal stating that the prisioners would be released if Umofia would pay two-hundread and fifty cowries. In this moment Okonwko was suffering and couldn`t bar with himself. Right now was the peak of his problems. Days later, there was a town`s reunion, where the first speaker laments the tragedy that had just occured, and he also said that he may have to spill blood if he enters into the battle with the white men.

In the middle of the speech, 5 court messengers came and approached the crowd. They anounced that Okonkwo had killed himself. He could bare it anymore, The truth is that he thought that killing himself would be the best way to stay away from his problems. As the book said, the comissioner in his novel would only have a little paragraph for what had happened to Okonkwo, he didn`t recognized what Okonkwo had fight for all over his entire life.

Part two

Chapters from 14-19

Okonkwo arrived to his motherland, he was sent there because of the terrible thing he did in his village. He came there with all his family and nothing more. Uchendu was the father of okonkwo`s motherland, he was a very wise man who had lived there since he was little, and everybody followed him. Okonkwo is progressing quite good in Mbanta. Each one of Uchendu`s sons gave him 300 seed yams for starting his farm. They were very cooperative in this prospect and help him in many ways. Okonkwos attitude was becaming worse and worse, he was depressed because all of his problems gathered. Days passed and the ceremony started, All the daughters should be there, they sat in a big circle and the bride sat in the center with a hen in her right hand. The ceremony was for the bride to confess the true about herself. If she is dishonest she will suffer or die at chilbirth. After the ceremony Uchendo started to notice Okonkwo`s attitude, he decided to teach him a lesson. He said that Okonkow o is only a child, and he has no experience, he dosen`t know anything and that he has to hear his elders. He said that when life is a sorrow and bitterness there will always be refuge on his motherland and that is why his mother has to be of great importance in his life. He also said that he is not the only one who had suffer, in this village everyone has suffer, specially himself. Uchendo will always be right about what he is talking and he will always want the good for everyone. 

After staying a lot of days at okonkwo`s motherland, Oberikua decides to visit him with a special purpose. He brings a several bunch of cowries because  he wanted to give him all the money he gained during selling his yams. He also bring bad news, he said the village named Abame was distroyed. It seems that a white men with an iron horse came to the village, everyone didnt know what to do, so they came to ask the Oracle what should they do. The Oracle said that the white man would be followed by others, who would destruct Abame. The villagers obeyed the Oracle and killed the white man and also tied his iron horse, that ended up being a bycicle, yo their sacred tree so the could prevent it from getting away and telling the white man`s friends. A few weeks later, the white men saw the catastrophe of his friend. They decide to take revenge and destroy almost everything in the Abame village. Uchendu asked Oberika what did the man said before they killed him.Oberika replies that he said noting, or nothing that they understand. Uchendu said that Abame was foolish for killing a man who said nothing. Okonkwo agrees that the villagers were fools, but he believes that a better idea would have been to prepare and arm themselves d. They had heard stories about white men coming with guns and strong drinks and taking slaves away across the sea, but they never believed these stroies. Uchendu rapidly wanted to teack somethng to his sons, he told a story about the mother kite and a bird, the metaphore of this story was: "never kill a mon who says nothing" this means that if someone dos not say anything, then something is wrong. And if someone complains then it may be right to do something in response. Also "there is nothing to fear from someone who shouts", this means people who shout in protest are less likely to be men of action.  

Since Okonkwo left Umofia changed, The missionaries had come, they had built a church and had many converts named efelufus. Oberika decided to vistit him again, this time for another purpose. It was the sudden appearance of Okonkwo`s son, Nwoye, among the missionaries in Umofia. Nwoye also told him that he was not his father. Missionaries came to Mbanta, and first was no effect in this village, nobody believed in them and instead, they laugh of them. Only 2 or 3 were atracted to the new religion and so it began. Okonkwo react to the news about the wihte man's  God and his son "Jesu Kristi"  in an incredible question: Who was the wife of this god and the mother of Jesus Kristi? And then he thought that the man was mad. Nwoye reacted to the news differently to all the others, he had been captivated by the poetry of the new religion. The death of Ikemefuna had to do a lot with this event, this death was never answered to nwoye, so maybe this new religion would  answer his question. Okonkwo is a straight man who is convinced that Nwoye is not his right son with the right spirit. Now by going into a new religion their relation will come to an end. 

 The missionaries request a piece of lando on which they can build a churhc. The villagers decided to give the a piece in the Evil Forest, where all the evil people die. The missionaries accept, but the villagers are certain that the spirits of this forest will kill them in days. Nothing happens and the church wins 3 converts and days passed and they gained a lot more. Nneka, was a woman who had a lot of twins in his past pregnancies, and she was one of the converts who became one of the new religion. One of Okonkwo`s cousins saw Nwoye among the christians, and he went rapidly to inform Okonkwo. When he saw Nwoye he bursted into flames and strarted choaking him by the neck. Uchendus saw that and order him to let go. Nwoye runs to Umofia and started school there where he could learn reading and writing. Okonkow starts to wonder if he was really his son, and he thinkks he is such an extremely weak son. 

The church won many converts from the efulefu. One day, osu came to church. Almost all of the converts moved away from them, and there was an uproar but Mr. Kiaga refused to deny the membership to the church. He said that they will not die if they cut their hair or break any of the other taboos that have been imposed by them. Mr. Kiaga’s persuaded most of the other converts that they could not reject their new faith only because the outcasts have joined them. The osu became the most zealous members of the church. Okonkwo demanded Mbanta to the christians to get out using violence, but the rulers and elders decided to ostracize them instead. Okonkwo said it was a very womanly clan.

Okonkwo was almost leaving Mbanta, he was going to return to Umofia. In celebration of that, and also to gratitude the villagers he throws a large feast for all of his mother`s kinsmen. He was very grateful althought he thounght that it was a tremendous waste of time, he thinks t¡Mbanta was too womanly for him. In the feast, one man tells Okonkwo how grateful he was for the food, but also he sais that he isvery worriedwith the next generations. He thinks the christianity is winning people and is taking them away from their families and traditions.
